Each doll is hand-painted and opens at the middle to reveal a smaller doll inside. They are a beloved symbol of Russian folk art and culture. What is the difference between a babushka, a Matryoshka, and a Russian nesting doll?

'Matryoshka' is the Russian name, 'babushka' means grandmother in Russian and is commonly used in Australia, and 'nesting doll' describes how each piece fits inside the next.
