About Our Russian Orthodox Icon Art
Russian Orthodox icon art is a centuries-old tradition of hand-painted religious imagery, created as objects of devotion, blessing and remembrance within the Orthodox Christian faith. Traditionally found in homes, churches and as treasured gifts, icons hold deep spiritual and cultural significance and are often passed down through generations.
At Dolls In Dolls, we take great care to understand and verify the origins of every icon piece we offer. Every item we stock represents traditional Russian Orthodox craftsmanship:
- ✔ Linden wood, typically dried for two to three years before carving
- ✔ Hand-turned or hand-shaped by a master craftsman
- ✔ Individually hand-painted by a skilled iconographer artist
- ✔ Finished with 3–5 layers of protective lacquer
Because every piece is handmade, each item has its own character — natural variations in wood grain, colour and painted detail make every piece genuinely unique.
SIGNED BY THE ARTIST
Every piece is individually signed by the iconographer who painted it — a mark of authenticity and provenance you won’t find on mass-produced religious items.
