What is a Matryoshka doll?

A Matryoshka doll — also called a Russian nesting doll or babushka doll — is a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside another. Each doll is hand-painted and opens at the middle to reveal a smaller doll inside. They are a beloved symbol of Russian folk art and culture. What is the difference between a babushka, a Matryoshka, and a Russian nesting doll?

Babushka, Matryoshka, and Russian nesting doll all refer to the same traditional handcrafted wooden toy from Russia. 'Matryoshka' is the Russian name, 'babushka' means grandmother in Russian and is commonly used in Australia, and 'nesting doll' describes how each piece fits inside the next. All the dolls we sell at Dolls in Dolls are genuine Russian-made pieces. See our full FAQ here: https://dollsindolls.com.au/matryoshka-babushka-dolls-faq-australia/

About Our Fabergé Style Glass Art

Fabergé style glass art draws on the legendary elegance of Imperial Russian design, famous for ornate, jewel-like decoration and rich detail. Handcrafted in St. Petersburg, Russia, these glass pieces bring that same opulent tradition into beautiful decorative art for the home or a truly special gift.

At Dolls In Dolls, we take great care to understand and verify the origins of every piece we offer. As with all of our items, this piece is handcrafted:

✔ Fine glass or crystal construction
✔ Handcrafted in St. Petersburg, Russia
✔ Individually hand-decorated with intricate detail by a skilled artist
✔ Finished to a fine, jewel-like polish

Because every piece is handcrafted, each item has its own character — natural variations in detail and finish make every piece genuinely unique.

What Makes This Piece Different

✔ Handcrafted in St. Petersburg, Russia
✔ Fabergé style opulent design and detail
✔ Ideal for display cabinets and collections
✔ Each item unique — no two are exactly the same

Handmade variations in detail and finish are natural characteristics of authentic craftsmanship, not defects. Glass is fragile — please handle with care, and keep away from children under 3 due to small parts and breakable components.
