Dolls in the Zagorsk (Sergiev Posad) style — the birthplace of the very first Russian nesting doll in 1890 — hand-turned and hand-painted with simpler, folk-art brushwork and strong historical roots. Zagorsk, now known as Sergiev Posad, has an important place in the history of Russian Matryoshka. It is associated with the earliest development of the Russian nesting doll tradition following the creation of the first known set in 1890.
